Summary
The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) is an ongoing survey that collects the most current and comprehensive national- and state-level data on intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking victimization in the United States. CDC developed NISVS to collect data on these important public health problems and enhance violence prevention efforts.

From FY2024 to FY2026, CDC lost about 30% of its workforce. The Division of Violence Prevention, which oversees NVDRS, lost three of its nine units as part of the April 2025 Reduction in Force. However, the Surveillance Branch, which is primarily responsible for overseeing NVDRS, was not affected. Data are collected and published by an external contractor, creating uncertainty of future data collection and data availability if no contractor is funded.
